Former Salem County Sheriff Chooses Miller, Not Gant

In the letters section of the South Jersey Times yesterday former Salem County Sheriff John Cooksey endorsed incumbent Sheriff Chuck Miller.

This is interesting, not only because as Cooksey wrote, that he “had the opportunity to work with and evaluate and observe their actions and dedication,” but Cooksey is also the man who re-hired Gant. Regular readers of The Bob & Steve Show blog should recall that after an incident with an inmate Gant lost his job, sued to get his job back, appealed after losing that lawsuit and agreed, according to court documents, “that he will not seek re-employment with the County of Salem at any time in the future.”

Gant obviously went back on his word and somehow Gant managed to convince Cooksey to re-hire him as a Sheriff's Officer providing courthouse security and serving warrants, writs and court process, as opposed to being a Corrections Officer. Given that Cooksey has chosen to publicly endorse the man who replaced him over the man he re-hired, it is entirely possible the reason Cooksey rehired Gant is the rumors he felt sorry for Gant are true.

No matter what the reason for the re-hire was the fact that the one man who was the boss of both candidates in the sheriff election chose one over the other speaks volumes.

The choice is clear, a candidate who obviously can’t be trusted to keep his word and allegedly once beat a defenseless man unconscious or a guy who has been endorsed by the man who was once the boss of both candidates. It’s an easy choice, now it’s up to the Salem County voters to make the right choice.

Freeholder Candidate Who Held A “Game Of Chance” To Raise Money Now Solicits $20,000 Donations

Vincent Squire

Vincent Squire, the Camden County freeholder candidate who was disavowed by his own party and possibly violated the law by holding a raffle to raise funds for his campaign is at it again.

This time he is asking for $20,000 campaign contributions.

In a Facebook post Squire wrote, “The maximum you can give is $20,000 if you do not have it all you can make daily installations.”

I really don’t understand Squire. The guy must think the rules don’t apply to him. The New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission (ELEC) is clear on how much an individual can contribute to a campaign, and it’s not $20,000. Never mind the fact that PayPal, by law, “is limited to $10,000 USD or it’s foreign equivalent per transaction.” I didn’t make that up it says it on PayPal’s website, which is where Squire wants you to make your online contribution to his campaign.

I can’t wait until this guy’s court date for his second degree assault charge against his own son gets here. That should be enough to finally make him disappear from South Jersey’s political landscape.

Robert Turkavege, Sore Loser Or Desperate To Stay Relevant?

Robert Turkavege

Robert Turkavege

By now you’re probably aware of the fact that Robert Turkavege thought it might be a good idea to go and endorse state Senator Jeff Van Drew for congress. If you missed it InsiderNJ covered it here and here.

For those of you who forgot, Turkavege was a competitor in the CD2 Republican Primary won by Seth Grossman.

This is not the first time Turkavege whined since coming in fourth place out of four in that primary. Back in July Turkavege was still whining about losing that primary and went so far as to call on Grossman to drop out of the race. Back then I wrote:

Maybe Turkavege put out his statement to try and stay relevant, maybe he’s a sore loser, either way to paraphrase what Chis Christie said at the Morris County GOP Unity Breakfast, Turkavege, and other wishy-washy Republicans, have till Labor Day to fall in love with Seth Grossman.

Obviously, Turkavege didn’t take that advice, nor did he take the advice of JR Carman, the founder of New Jersey Constitutional Republicans, who released a video over a week ago talking about the importance of voting for all Republicans, moderate or conservative.

Turkavege, in his endorsement of Van Drew called Grossman “an embarrassment to the Republican Party.” In my not-so-humble opinion Turkavege is the embarrassment to the party. Turkavege is the one who has done nothing but whine about Grossman since losing the primary. Turkavege was whining during the primary. Remember, it was Turkavege who acted like a complete novice and failed to file the required paperwork with the county clerk to be placed in the Cumberland County GOP’s column on the primary election ballot and then had the balls to blame Cumberland County GOP Chairman Michael Testa for that mistake. And, that wasn’t the first time Turkavege had problems filing paperwork, he blamed traffic the first time.

I sense a pattern there, don’t get your paperwork filed on time, blame the traffic. Don’t file required paperwork, blame the chairman. Nothing is ever Turkavege’s fault! Lose a primary, call for the guy who beat you to drop out. That doesn’t work, endorse the Democrat.

I honestly can’t tell if Turkavege is simply a sore loser or if his endorsement is him trying to stay relevant. Either way, Mr. Turkavege should consider taking his Never-Trump self over to the Democratic Party.
