While everyone is waiting to see if there will be a GOP primary for Senate in LD1, we suddenly have an announcement for Assembly.

Downe Township Mayor Robert “Bob” Campbell threw his hat in the ring via Facebook on Thanksgiving Eve.

Campbell won election to Downe Township Committee in 2012. In 2013 he wanted the opportunity to challenge Jeff Van Drew for the Senate seat in LD1 but lost the Republican primary to Susan Adelizzi Schmidt. Last year he ran for Assembly, but was denied the party line until the now infamous video of an apparently intoxicated Brian McDowell surfaced. That, of course, helped Campbell become Jim Sauro’s running mate.

Voters must think Campbell is doing a good job in Downe Township – he was unopposed in his re-election. Now if he can get LD1 voters to like him as much he could end up in Trenton.

New Jerseyans Brine Turkeys As Gov. Murphy Brines Roads

I was doing my best not to write anything about Governor Phil Murphy and snow. He failed the test of his first snowstorm. Miserably!

Mainstream news sources, usually happy to suck up to the Governor, did a fairly good job beating Murphy up over his failure in handling last week’s snowstorm. Other bloggers did an even better job. I really saw no need to add to it all.

Then yesterday happened. I had a lot of local traveling to do, I spent time driving Routes 42, 55 and 295 and couldn’t help noticing the roads were being treated for a winter storm. My co-host, Bob Greco, told me there were snowplows parked on the sides of the roadway not far from his home.

Basically, Murphy spent millions of tax dollars preparing for a storm that no one forecast.

But at least we know my co-host can safely travel New Jersey’s brined roads to get to where he’s going to brine his turkey.

Have a happy Thanksgiving!

Michael Testa followed this morning’s announcement with a press release which follows:

Cumberland GOP Chairman Michael Testa Announces Candidacy For Senate In LD1

“I’m running for state Senate to be a fighter for South Jersey and to ensure we are no longer ignored.”

VINELAND – Cumberland County Regular Republican Organization Chairman Michael Testa announced during an appearance on Harry Hurley’s “Hurley in the Morning” radio show that he is a candidate for the state Senate seat being vacated by state Senator Jeff Van Drew.

“For too long South Jersey has been ignored by both Democrat and Republican administrations. Most serving in either house of the legislature couldn’t tell you where the East Point Lighthouse is or the proper pronunciation of the Maurice River, the mouth of which is where the lighthouse is located,” Michael Testa said. “I’m running for state Senate to be a fighter for South Jersey and to ensure we are no longer ignored.”

“The Democrats have the Governor and both houses of the legislature.” Testa continued, “I understand as a newly elected Republican I will be part of the minority, but our system of government was designed to have checks and balances. I will be a Republican legislator fighting to provide the checks and balances to the insane tax policies and the very notion of a sanctuary state propagated by Phil Murphy and his liberal allies.”

“I intend to win this race and join state Senator Chris Brown and join him in fighting for all of the people in South Jersey. That means lower taxes, more jobs and, a project near and dear to my heart, the extension of Route 55,” Testa said.

Michael Testa is the Chairman of the Cumberland County GOP. Active in the community. Testa is a member of the Greater Vineland Chapter of the NAACP. He is the past Chairman of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cumberland and Salem Counties. Testa has served as the Board President of the Vineland Regional Dance company for several years. He was the 2016 recipient of the South Jersey Cultural Alliance Paul Aiken Encore Award for his dedication to the arts in South Jersey. Testa was the Chairman of the Board of the Vineland Downtown Improvement District/Main Street Vineland from 2006-2008.
