Is New Jersey Really The Most Moved From State?

Recently, thanks to a study by United Van Lines, lots of folks (politicians, activists and even the news) have been talking about New Jersey being the most moved from state. The thing is, another national moving company, Atlas Van Lines did a study of their own. According to their study, “Based on 71,092 Interstate and Cross-border Household Goods Relocations from January 1, 2018 through December 15, 2018” West Virginia is the most moved from state while New Jersey ranks tenth on their list. West Virginia doesn’t appear on United’s top ten of moved from states.

I’m not saying New Jersey isn’t losing people. It is and has been. I have personally left, more than once. Most recently I fled to New Mexico for five years, I’ve also moved to PA, SC, WV and MI over the years. For some reason I always find myself back in NJ.

Every time I left it was for the usual reasons, work and affordability. My rent in NM was about half of my rent here in NJ and I had a better view and a bigger place out west.

That said, what really led me to look in to whether or not New Jersey is truly the most moved from state is that according to the widely cited United Van Lines study the most moved to state is Vermont. That made absolutely no sense to me. I know several people who have left New Jersey and not one of them went to Vermont.

The Atlas Van Lines study claims Nevada is the most moved to state. That makes more sense to me, I actually know people who moved there from New Jersey.

Maybe New Jersey is the most moved from state in the nation, maybe it isn’t, it’s hard to tell. It appears United has twice as many trucks as Atlas, so United probably moved more people. There are also lots of folks who choose to move themselves, when I moved back to NJ I did it with a friend and a Budget rental truck. That was an experience!

About the only thing that is clear is after looking at the United vs Atlas moving survey and a little bit of U.S. census data and the Move.org website New Jersey definitely is in the top ten of moved from states and that’s not a good thing.

Oddly, it appears Vermont may actually be one of the top ten moved to states.

One has to wonder what Vermont has that New Jersey doesn’t. Maybe it’s the maple syrup?

As we head into the 2019 election season those who govern New Jersey, and those who want to govern, better figure out how to stop people from fleeing New Jersey. Perhaps stop taxing the residents to death and find a way to make Jersey more affordable. Just looking at the moved to and from data, it is obvious, New Jersey is not affordable. That means the state’s economy is something candidates will likely have to talk about in this election cycle. Making New Jersey affordable might be the key to winning elections this year.

Gloucester Township BOE Candidate Who Lied About His Residency Has First Meeting Tonight

Brian Reagan

Brian Reagan

Remember Brian Reagan, the guy who won a BOE seat in Gloucester Township without actually living there?

Well, at least he now spends “a couple nights a week” in the Township home he owns. According to at least two neighborhood residents Reagan has been spending some nights in the home since Township residents learned The Bob & Steve Show started asking questions about his residency.

Perhaps Reagan will answer questions from voters tonight during his first BOE meeting. I emailed him a question on November 26, 2018 and still haven’t had the courtesy of a reply.

There are many questions left unanswered. We already knew, Reagan splits his time between a home in Margate on North Jefferson and his girlfriend’s home on Hamilton Street in Philly, but one could ask exactly how much time is now being spent at his Cedar Creek Drive home in Gloucester Township?

Folks could also ask why his bio on his campaign website was a lie:

There are many other questions one could ask of Mr. Reagan. We listed some of those questions here.

Another question someone might ask Reagan is: was this slightly outdated online dating profile of his how he met his current girlfriend?

One also might wonder if Reagan is a heavy drinker or if he simply posts a lot of drinking photos on social media to look cool?

And, speaking of looking cool, one could ask if he’ll ever attend a school board meeting dressed like this:

Please don’t be upset with The Bob & Steve Show for poking fun at Reagan. If you want to be upset with anyone perhaps you should look at the voters in Gloucester Township who thought it would be a good idea to vote for a guy with a website that has a registrant address the same as a porn shop. Enjoy your new school board member Gloucester Township. We will stay on him until we get answers to our questions.

A Tale Of Two Tort Claims

As most of our readers know The Bob & Steve Show was notified former candidate for sheriff in Salem County, Bob Gant, filed a Notice of Tort Claim because he apparently plans to sue us, and 18 other entities and/or persons, for a total of $350,000.

As far as The Bob & Steve Show is concerned this is nothing more than Gant attempting to crush our First Amendment rights. As to everyone else named in Gant’s notice, if he goes through with this and files an actual lawsuit it will likely go down as one of the most frivolous lawsuits ever filed in New Jersey. Really, this whole thing is just Gant being a sore loser.

There was another Notice of Tort Claim filed that folks are now learning about. According to NJ.com Katie Brennan, “who accused a former top Murphy staffer of raping her in 2017, is seeking damages from the state of New Jersey for inflicting ‘emotional distress’ by employing her accused rapist,” has filed a Notice of Tort Claim and accused “the administration of acting “unlawfully, intentionally, negligently and/or with reckless indifference” when it hired and retained Albert J. Alvarez.”

NJ.com provided a link to Brennan’s Notice of Tort Claim here.

There are some very big differences between these two tort claims.

First, Gant claims to be suffering “both mentally, physically and emotional and economically as a result of the aforementioned breach.” Frankly, I think the only thing Gant suffers from is being a sore loser and even made fun of his “suffering” in a blog post yesterday. Brennan, in her Notice of Cort Claim states she is suffering from “emotional distress and other damages.” I absolutely, positively believe her!

Second, what happened to Katie Brennan is real and should never happen to anyone. Frankly her attacker is lucky she isn’t one of my sister because I guarantee if she were I would have hunted her attacker down by now, and I’m sure Bob would be with me. What happened to Gant was nothing, he’s just mad that he was unable to bully people into not talking about the fact he beat up a defenseless man in the old jail.

Finally, look at the signatures of the certifications. Brennan’s lawyer signed her Notice of Tort Claim, as is usually the case. Gant signed his, which tells me not even his lawyer really believes his line of BS.

Bottom line: we hope Brennan gets justice, both civil and criminal. She deserves justice! Gant, on the other hand, is just a sore loser, upset he couldn’t bully people to not talk about the bad he has done.
