PRESS RELEASE: Sawyer Calls On Burzichelli And Taliaferro To Break Their Silence On Project Veritas Video

Republican candidate for Assembly in the 3rd Legislative District, Beth Sawyer, called out John Burzichelli and Adam Taliaferro on their silence after the release of a Project Veritas video in which a Phil Murphy campaign staffer says Murphy will mandate vaccines after the election. Her press release on the matter follows (for context we’ve posted the Project Veritas video below the text of Sawyer’s press release):

WOOLWICH – Republican candidate for Assembly in New Jersey’s third legislative district, Beth Sawyer, called on John Burzichelli and Adam Taliaferro to break their silence on the recently released Project Veritas video in which a senior Phil Murphy campaign staffer stated that Murphy plans on mandating vaccines after Election Day.

“Phil Murphy knows John Burzichelli and Adam Taliaferro are his South Jersey Tax Team and relies on their votes in the Assembly. Burzichelli and Taliaferro even voted to tax the rain,” Beth Sawyer said. “Burzichelli voted to allow Murphy keep certain executive orders, directives and powers until after the election. That same vote is one of the 324 votes Taliaferro missed in this legislative session.”

“Perhaps the reason Burzichelli has remained silent since the release of the Project Veritas video is he knows his yes vote on bill A-5820 is what gives Murphy the authority to mandate vaccines after the election.” Sawyer added, “Taliaferro’s silence is his go to stance given the fact he has not voted 555 times since arriving in the Assembly.”

“It’s time for Burzichelli and Taliaferro to break their silence and explain to South Jersey voters why they believe it is okay for Phil Murphy to wait until after the election to mandate vaccines,” Sawyer said.

South Jersey Democrats Desperately Defending High Property Taxes

Republican challengers across South Jersey have managed to stick to one unifying message: High property taxes are the fault of decades of Democrat control in the legislature and local government.

Staying on message has been paying off. Democrats are answering the attack across South Jersey. They’re busy twisting and bending the truth to make themselves look good.

One example is in Barrington where the Democrats sent a mailer claiming one of the incumbents, Shawn Ludwig, has served on Council since 2009.

Seems like a legit mailing EXCEPT Councilman Ludwig was not sworn in until January 2012 after being appointed to fill a vacancy. Don’t take my word for it, here’s a screenshot of the resolution from Barrington’s website:

In Gloucester County in their efforts to defend incumbent Commissioner Bob “Weekend at Bernies” Damminger the Democrats sent a mailer claiming “Homeowners pay $1,203 less per year in property taxes than the state average.”

That mailer was obviously sent in response to Republican Commissioner candidates Nick DeSilvio and Chris Konawel talking point that Gloucester County is ranked 28th of 3,143 counties in the nation in order of median property taxes. For the record, if you look at property taxes by percentage of median income Gloucester County ranks 24th of 3,143 counties. Check for yourself at tax-rates.org.

Add to that the fact that a member of the supposedly non-partisan Gloucester County Chamber of Commerce Executive Committee, immediate past chair Lisa Carney, has taken to defending the high property taxes in Gloucester County on social media.

And, let’s not forget that Gloucester County Republicans had to drop a cease and desist letter in LD3 demanding that networks stop airing a Democrat commercial due to its misrepresentation of Assembly candidate Beth Sawyer. The Republican’s lawyer was clear, “The advertisement’s claims are provably false.”

To defend against a unified message, South Jersey Democrats have resorted to outright lies, trying to put a positive spin on high property taxes and “claims that are provably false,” which I believe is attorney speak for lying.

Democrats are responding and it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to understand that if they are responding they are concerned. Experience backs that statement up – I’m a veteran of many South Jersey campaigns, won some, lost some, the one thing that has been consistent is the Democrats ignore candidates they aren’t concerned about.

I don’t like making election predictions, I remember predicting a big win in 2008 and I did it on TV, then we lost. That was not fun. 13 years later, I am expecting some very good news on Election night, news so good I might have my first drink in six years, it’ll be a good reason to fall off my own self-imposed no booze wagon.

PRESS RELEASE: Durr, McCarthy-Patrick and Sawyer call on Sweeney team to pull deceptive ad

Republican candidates in the 3rd legislative district, Ed Durr for Senate, Bethanne McCarthy-Patrick and Beth Sawyer for Assembly are pushing back on “a deceptive ad on cable television” launched by Senator Steve Sweeney, Assemblyman John Burzichelli and Assemblyman Adam Taliaferro. The LDe candidates’ press release on the issue follows:

Third legislative district Republican candidates for state Senate, Ed Durr, and Assembly Bethanne McCarthy-Patrick and Beth Sawyer have called on Senator Steve Sweeney, Assemblyman John Burzichelli and Assemblyman Adam Taliaferro to stop running a deceptive ad on cable television.

The ad in question makes false claims about the Republican candidates’ stance on issues, job performance and bill payment history.

“While we all expected the Democrats to be aggressive, we did not expect them to resort to outright lies,” Republican state Senate candidate Ed Durr said. “The ad says I am against workers being paid overtime, I’m a non-union truck driver who relies on overtime pay to support my family. Why would I ever say such a thing? It’s made up, a lie that needs to stop immediately.”

GOP Assembly candidate Bethanne McCarthy-Patrick added, “Their ad claims I had a no-show government job. I was shocked to learn my 21 years as a union firefighter/EMT counts as a no-show job! While my co-workers and I were saving lives and property these guys were casting votes to raise our taxes. Apparently, lying is the best way for them to attack a first responder.”

“Sweeney, Burzichelli and Taliaferro do their best to stretch the truth, making things appear as something they aren’t. As a mom I always taught my kids that is lying. Sweeney, Burzichelli and Taliaferro should all know better.” Republican Assembly candidate Beth Sawyer continued, “The trio goes so far as to bring up a medial bill after the birth of my son nearly 26 years ago that my ex-husband was responsible for. Then, to add insult to injury they claim I failed to pay taxes on a property I sold and did not own, which was very easy for them to fact check.”

“While we all understand politics can be rough, lying is completely unacceptable. Sweeney, Burzichelli and Taliaferro should immediately pull their deceptive ad. The voters of our district deserve better than a bunch of lies,’ Sawyer said.
