Cumberland GOP Chairman Michael Testa Announces Candidacy For Senate In LD1

“I’m running for state Senate to be a fighter for South Jersey and to ensure we are no longer ignored.”

VINELAND – Cumberland County Regular Republican Organization Chairman Michael Testa announced during an appearance on Harry Hurley’s “Hurley in the Morning” radio show that he is a candidate for the state Senate seat being vacated by state Senator Jeff Van Drew.

“For too long South Jersey has been ignored by both Democrat and Republican administrations. Most serving in either house of the legislature couldn’t tell you where the East Point Lighthouse is or the proper pronunciation of the Maurice River, the mouth of which is where the lighthouse is located,” Michael Testa said. “I’m running for state Senate to be a fighter for South Jersey and to ensure we are no longer ignored.”

“The Democrats have the Governor and both houses of the legislature.” Testa continued, “I understand as a newly elected Republican I will be part of the minority, but our system of government was designed to have checks and balances. I will be a Republican legislator fighting to provide the checks and balances to the insane tax policies and the very notion of a sanctuary state propagated by Phil Murphy and his liberal allies.”

“I intend to win this race and join state Senator Chris Brown and join him in fighting for all of the people in South Jersey. That means lower taxes, more jobs and, a project near and dear to my heart, the extension of Route 55,” Testa said.

Michael Testa is the Chairman of the Cumberland County GOP. Active in the community. Testa is a member of the Greater Vineland Chapter of the NAACP. He is the past Chairman of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cumberland and Salem Counties. Testa has served as the Board President of the Vineland Regional Dance company for several years. He was the 2016 recipient of the South Jersey Cultural Alliance Paul Aiken Encore Award for his dedication to the arts in South Jersey. Testa was the Chairman of the Board of the Vineland Downtown Improvement District/Main Street Vineland from 2006-2008.

There has been a lot of talk about who may seek the LD1 state Senate seat being vacated by Jeff Van Drew. In fact, we suggested we could see an exciting GOP primary.

This past weekend that pot was stirred a little more when on The Bob & Steve Show our guest, former Assemblywoman Maria Rodriguez-Gregg, suggested former Assemblyman Sam Fiocchi should run.

This morning, by way of Harry Hurley, we have our first announced candidate in the race. Cumberland County Republican Chairman Michael Testa appeared on the Hurley in the Morning radio show and announced his candidacy for the state Senate.

Rumors are Testa has some significant backing and has been assembling a campaign team. If the rumors I’m hearing are true Testa is the frontrunner if a primary takes place.

Stay tuned!

We Have Our First GOP Primary For 2019!

Please accept my apologies for the delayed post on this, but Bob and I were proud to take The Bob & Steve Show on the road to the Salvation Army in Vineland to help Steve Plevins out with the Thanksgiving Turkey Drive. We passed out nearly 200 Turkey dinners to folks who need the help. Former Assemblyman Sam Fiocchi helped out too.

Yesterday’s big political news in South Jersey was The Press of Atlantic City reporting that “Republican Atlantic County Freeholder Chairman Frank Formica and Ventnor Mayor Beth Maccagnano Holtzman will run for state Assembly next year.”

That was followed with more news out of Atlantic County via a Hurley in the Morning exclusive at 7:05 this morning that “Atlantic County Freeholder at Large John Risley and Somers Point City Councilman James Toto will be running for the New Jersey General Assembly in the fast approaching 2019 election.”

As the Chairman of the freeholder board Formica is known to the voters throughout the district. Risley, as a freeholder-at-large is likewise known by voters throughout the district.

Formica’s running mate, Maccagnano Holtzman and Risley’s running mate, Toto will have to work harder than the others to be as known to the voters as their respective running mates.

I have no doubt Toto will make that ground up quickly. Since dropping out of the congressional primary in CD2 he’s been seen everywhere. I guess all that activity was him gearing up for a run for assembly.

With how hard we know Toto works this could shape up to be an exciting primary to watch. Stay tuned and we’ll keep you updated on this race.
